Blades

Zombie Tools - The Hellion

Details
Category: Blades
Created: Monday, 20 August 2012 22:25

This may seem a little random, but I came across this fun blade while working on a MSM side project (to be revealed soon). Zombie Tools is a small USA company that makes no messing around blades with the intent of "accessories for the apocalypse". Now everyone will have their opinion on "zombie" stuff being fun or a silly waste, but the zombie tools brand being viable weapons is stone cold fact. Everything they offer emanates the concept of deadly efficiency. Offering many designs for the size class desired, even rowdy big, their blade construction starts with 5160 spring steel and feature unique distressed effects on the final look. I'm a fan as I feel it adds to the personality of the blades and encourages the user to beat the shit out of it; to actually use it rather than coddling it like a baby trying to keep a clean look.

As for my specific experience, I got to check out the Hellion. Being approx 26" in overall length it has a very sword like feel to it. The shape comes from historical inspiration looking similar to the ancient Hellenic kopis and the Iberian falcata, while giving a modern urban touch. The blade angle and increased blade sized towards the tip makes it quite optimized for hacking, yet the actual tip is still quite sharp at a steep angle when a good ol' stab is needed. Grip wise the handles are aluminum based with a classic leather wrap offering a surprisingly comfy and firm grip. The end result package weighs in at a very nimble and potent 2lbs.

To seal the deal, the Hellion even comes with a big ass kydex sheath and priced at around $290. Considering I've seen plenty of knives cost that much, I'd say that is a pretty solid deal for a combat capable short-sword sized blade. Be sure and check out the Zombie Tools youtube channel to see some good abuse vids showing off their durability.
