MAXPEDITION - Tear Away Panel

Details
Category: Pouches
Created: Wednesday, 05 August 2009 03:14

If you have an old medic or demo pouch you wish was tear-away capable, then this panel is for you. The foundation is simple mostly consisting of a PALS webbing party and velcro. 5" TacTies or similar connection systems can be used to attach, however keep in mind shorter ones are fine to use for the pouch connection as well. Just in case you are still confused the idea is to attach the non-handle side to a platform such as a vest or pack. The pouch is then mounted to the panel piece with the handle and they connect with hook and loop. To further secure, a strap with an SRB is also supplied. As a small note, mine came in an odd configuration and I had to move the strap around to get it as shown. So come business time you can release the SRB and literally tear off the pouch. Functionality wise you will need to keep an eye on the strap and SRB while doing a quick tear as it can hang up on the handle. A possible improvement might be to widen up the handle sew down points to make for a larger pass through hole. A great example of a use for this panel would be putting it on the Maxpedition Merlin, yet is great for anything you need to with tear off capability.

MAXPEDITION - Surgical Gloves Pouch

Details
Category: Pouches
Created: Wednesday, 05 August 2009 03:12

This lil pouch is no thrills, but will hold surgical gloves as promised like a champion. The main flap pull tab points up for easy opening. On the back is a set of PALS webbing to accept 3" TacTies or similar connection systems. On the inside are 2 main sleeve pockets for gloves and each of these pockets have a slim divider inside for separation options. The pouch can easily hold 4 pairs of gloves, but more can be rammed in if packed carefully.

MAXPEDITION - EDC Pocket Organizer

Category: Pouches

DIMS: 5” x 7” x 0.75”

As you may guess from the name, this pouch is made with the intent to put in your pocket, yet also has other great functionality options. The size will fit in most cargo pant pockets thus easily fits in medium and larger packs for small item organization. To give even further options there is PALS webbing on the back which works with 3" TacTies or similar connection systems. This allows mounting to the exterior of larger packs which can be quite handy. A beefy handle is incorporated for easy retrieval when inside packs or pockets.

MAXPEDITION - 1-QT USGI Canteen Pouch

Details
Category: Pouches
Created: Wednesday, 05 August 2009 03:08

This pouch is a handy way to carry the classic 1 quart USGI canteens which can be purchased on the cheap at surplus stores. To clarify, the canteen is not included. The back has a full set of PALS webbing to work with 5" Tac Ties or similar attachment systems. As an improvement to older designs, the bottom is mesh to allow easy drainage. Another solid feature is the SRB (buckle) female end is mounted directly to the pouch so it will always be in the same place. Since the cap holder protrudes from the cap, it may require some effort to release the canteen from the Y-shapped flap. Having the cap connector face forward helps this issue, otherwise just be aggressive with the flap and you will be fine. The main down side I had with my testing was that the flap tension was non adjustable, this is an issue since the flap was not tight enough to firmly secure my canteen. It was by no means going to come out of the pouch, however the canteen slightly bounces around during heavy movement.

TACTICAL TAILOR - Eclipse Concealed Carry Pouch

Details
Category: Pouches
Created: Thursday, 30 July 2009 21:24

DIMS: 7.5" tall X 6.5" wide X 1.25" deep

The Eclipse pouch offers some nice discreet carry options for those who want to keep things more low key. It won't be as fast as a holster, but has a much better chance to be perceived by others as just some random organizer pouch. The main intent was to wear on one's belt so 2 short Malice clips are included, however the back has enough PALS webbing to allow usage of long Malice clips for good connections to larger packs / platforms. The backing has stiffener integrated to make the pouch keep its shape. Despite there is no padding, the stiffener helps keep weapon poking sensations away.

TACTICAL TAILOR - Crossfire Concealed Carry Bag

Details
Category: Packs/Bags
Created: Thursday, 30 July 2009 21:22

DIMS: Weapon compartment: 8" tall X 7.5" wide X .5" deep (averaged since tapered)
Main compartment: 7.5" tall X 7.5" wide X 3" deep
Secondary compartment: 6" tall X 6" wide X 1.5" deep

Looks like TT was feeling crafty and decided to take a stab at making their own CCW shoulder bag. My first impressions of the Crossfire are that it is lightweight and most of the holding space seems to be depth rather than the other dimensions. The adjustable shoulder strap comes with a pad that is a nice mix of non-slip and breathable mesh. On the back of the whole pack is a large dose of mesh with padding to help with comfort and airflow. As with most meshes of this style, keep hook velcro away from it as it will tear its ass on up! For extra mounting options there is PALS webbing on the upper ends of the platform and on the sides of the compartments. They aren't huge so only expect to attach pouches that fit 1 PALS channel x 2 rows. Making good use of the side PALS, Duraflex Slick clips are used to attach a removable waist strap to assist in securing. Hence the removable aspect, you can just take these off if you don't ever see yourself using them.

JONES TACTICAL - Cobra Shooters Belt (CSB-01)

Details
Category: Belts
Created: Saturday, 25 July 2009 21:54

You may have not of heard of him, but Jones Tactical is hitting the scene offering some no messing around heavy duty custom gear. For this particular review I am checking out the Cobra Shooters Belt which hence the name uses the pinnacle of heavy duty buckles, Cobra buckles. What is so special about this buckle you might ask? Well a common problem in other belts is that the webbing strength is rated much much higher than the buckle. The Corba however is rated closer to the webbing, getting into rowdy 2500+ lbs country which not even the fattest bastard on the planet can threaten.

CAMELBAK - Trizip

Details
Category: Packs/Bags
Created: Monday, 20 July 2009 07:13

SPECS: 20 In x 13 In x 11.5 In, 2318 CU IN (37.97 L)

Camelbak teamed up Mystery Ranch on this one offering their unique trizip zipper opening layout. The attention to detail on the small features really makes this pack stand out as a quality pack. Starting off I'll note the Futura Harness is extra heavy duty offering loads of padding and support. Feel free to put whatever the hell you want in this pack since the harness strap system is built tough enough to hold loads usually applied to much larger packs.

Dims:Approx 17" x 14" x 5"

I'm not sure of the exact name of this one, but is basically a military version of Watershed's civilian duffle designs. This one is a pretty nice general purpose size for keeping a set of clothes or a set of electronics nice and dry. Speaking of electronics, a sweet insert was included to offer the option to keep things padded and soft inside.
